Booking a dental checkup should be straightforward, and yes, you can book online at DENTL East Melbourne by completing the form on our website. If you prefer speaking to someone directly, call (03) 8820 1699 during business hours. Either way, we’ll confirm your appointment and answer any questions you have before your visit.
How does online booking work?
Visit dentl.com.au and complete the online enquiry form with your details, preferred appointment times, and the reason for your visit. The team will contact you to confirm an appointment that suits your schedule.
This system allows you to submit your booking request outside business hours, which is particularly useful if you’re researching dental practices late at night or during your lunch break. You don’t need to wait until 8am to get the process started.
Once you’ve submitted the form, expect a response within one business day to confirm your appointment time.
What happens during a dental checkup?
If it’s been a while since your last visit, or you’re coming to DENTL for the first time, here’s what to expect from a standard checkup:
Comprehensive examination. The dentist examines your teeth, gums, tongue, and the soft tissues of your mouth. They’re checking for decay, gum disease, signs of oral cancer, and any other issues that need attention.
X-rays if needed. Depending on your history and what the dentist observes, they may recommend X-rays to see what’s happening below the surface. This helps identify decay between teeth, bone loss, impacted teeth, and other issues not visible during a visual examination.
Professional clean. A dental hygienist or dentist removes plaque and tartar buildup that regular brushing and flossing can’t address. This includes scaling (removing hardened deposits) and polishing.
Discussion of findings. The dentist explains what they’ve found, answers your questions, and recommends any treatment that may be needed. At DENTL, we take time to explain things clearly without rushing, and we won’t pressure you into treatment you’re not comfortable with.
How often should you have a checkup?
The standard recommendation is every six months, but the right frequency for you depends on your individual circumstances.
You may need more frequent visits if you have active gum disease, a history of frequent cavities, diabetes or other conditions affecting oral health, or you smoke.
You may be fine with annual visits if you have excellent oral health, no history of decay or gum problems, and you maintain good home care habits.
Your dentist can advise on the right schedule for you based on what they find during your examination.
What if you have dental anxiety?
Many people delay booking checkups because they feel anxious about dental visits. At DENTL, the team has specific experience working with anxious patients, and several of our dentists are known for their gentle, reassuring approach.
The clinic environment is designed to feel calm and welcoming rather than clinical and intimidating. For patients who need additional support, sedation options are available, ranging from mild relaxation through to in-house general anaesthesia for those who need it.
If anxiety has been keeping you from booking, mention this when you submit your online form or call. The team can discuss options to make your visit more comfortable.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Before your checkup:
- Bring a list of any medications you’re currently taking
- Note any dental concerns or symptoms you’ve experienced
- If you have dental records or recent X-rays from a previous dentist, these can be helpful (though not essential)
- Arrive a few minutes early to complete any new patient paperwork
