When Barbara first came to see Dr. Leighton at DENTL in East Melbourne, she had multiple missing upper teeth alongside existing teeth that were fractured, broken, and in some cases loose and mobile. The condition of her upper arch was significantly affecting her ability to eat and chew comfortably. Dr. Leighton took the time at that first appointment to thoroughly understand her concerns, assess her clinical situation, and develop a treatment plan suited to her specific needs.
Assessing Barbara’s Condition
Dr. Leighton began with a series of high-quality clinical photographs and a 3D CT scan. The scan confirmed the presence of infections and clearly mapped the state of Barbara’s failing upper teeth, including gaps, missing teeth, misplaced teeth, and mobile teeth that were compromising her ability to eat. This level of diagnostic detail is essential before planning any full arch implant treatment.
Barbara’s Treatment Plan
Upper Arch: All-Teeth-On-Four Implants
Given the extent of the upper arch deterioration, Dr. Leighton proposed the removal of all failing upper teeth and the placement of four implants to support an All-Teeth-On-Four implant bridge. This approach addressed the infections, restored the arch, and gave Barbara a fixed, functional result.
Lower Arch: Crowns and Fillings
Barbara’s lower teeth were in a significantly more treatable condition. Rather than extracting them, Dr. Leighton was able to retain most of the lower teeth with targeted restorative work, including dental crowns and fillings.
Treatment Under General Anaesthetic On-Site
Barbara’s upper arch treatment was completed at DENTL under general anaesthetic, which is available on-site. All failing upper teeth and associated infections were removed, and four implants were placed in a single session. Within a few days, a titanium acrylic bridge was fitted directly onto the implants, allowing Barbara to leave with a functional set of teeth in place.
Ongoing Care After Full Mouth Implant Treatment
As with all implant treatment at DENTL, Barbara will attend regular examination and hygiene appointments to ensure the implants, bridge, and surrounding gum tissue remain healthy over time. Routine maintenance is an essential part of supporting the long-term function of any implant restoration.
