Weekend Dental Care Near Richmond VIC (Because Toothaches Don’t Check the Calendar)

People Asked:

Are there dental clinics open on weekends in Richmond VIC?

Most Richmond dental clinics close by Friday afternoon. We're at DENTL East Melbourne, just minutes from Richmond, and we offer after-hours emergency dental care on weekends, late nights, and public holidays. We aim to see you the same day.

If you’re searching for dental clinics open on weekends in Richmond VIC, you’ve probably already hit the same wall everyone hits. Almost everything in Richmond, Cremorne, and the surrounding area shuts down by Friday at 5pm.

Not ideal when your tooth decides Saturday morning is the right time to start throbbing.

We’re at DENTL East Melbourne, just minutes from Richmond at 150 Jolimont Rd, and we offer after-hours emergency dental care on weekends, late nights, and public holidays.
We aim to see emergency patients the same day, often within a few hours of calling. And this isn’t a skeleton crew with limited equipment. It’s our full clinic, same technology, same clinical capability we have Monday to Friday.

Does It Actually Count as an Emergency?

Good question. Not everything needs weekend attention, but some things genuinely can’t wait 48 hours.
Pick up the phone now:
  • Toothache that ibuprofen can’t touch
  • A knocked-out permanent tooth (every minute matters here, ideally get seen within 30)
  • A cracked or broken tooth with exposed nerve, sharp edges, or serious pain
  • Swelling in the face or jaw that’s getting worse, especially with a fever
  • Bleeding that won’t stop after an extraction or injury
  • Signs of infection: throbbing, swelling, fever, bad taste in your mouth
Probably safe to wait until Monday:
  • Mild sensitivity to hot or cold that comes and goes
  • A small chip with no pain
  • A filling that feels a bit rough but isn’t hurting
  • Minor gum irritation
Not sure which category you fall into? Call us. We can talk through your symptoms and let you know whether you need to come in or whether it can wait.

Why Is Everything Closed on Weekends?

It’s not just a Richmond problem. Across Melbourne, most dental clinics run Monday to Friday because weekends require a full clinical team on overtime rates. Dentists, nurses, reception, sometimes anaesthetists. It adds up fast, and most practices can’t justify it.
So what are your actual options on a Saturday or Sunday near Richmond?
Hospital emergency departments will see you, but it’s rarely a great experience. Long waits. Treatment usually limited to pain relief and antibiotics. Then you’re told to follow up with your dentist on Monday anyway.
For something time-sensitive like a knocked-out tooth, that gap can make the difference between saving it and losing it.
Our after-hours service exists to close that gap. During the week we handle everything from check-ups to full mouth rehabilitation, including dental implants under 3D guidance and procedures under in-house general anaesthesia. When we come in on a weekend, all of that capability comes with us. You’re not getting a band-aid fix and a referral. You’re getting actual treatment.

What Happens When You Call on a Weekend

It’s simpler than you’d expect:
  1. You call us. Describe what’s going on so we can work out how urgent it is.
  2. We get you in quickly. We aim to see emergency patients the same day, often within hours.
  3. Proper assessment. We examine you, take any imaging needed, and tell you exactly what’s happening. In plain language, not dental jargon.
  4. Your options, laid out clearly. What needs to happen, what it involves, what it’ll cost. No guessing.
  5. Treatment, not just a temporary fix. In many cases we can start treatment there and then, rather than sending you home with painkillers and a Monday appointment.
Dr Leighton spent a decade at St Vincent’s Private and Public Hospitals handling medically compromised emergency cases. We also have in-house general anaesthesia with a dedicated anaesthetist on-site. So even if your emergency turns out to be more complicated than expected, we’re equipped for it.

What to Do While You’re Waiting to Be Seen

If you’re reading this on your phone with a dental problem right now, here are some practical things to try in the meantime.
Toothache: Warm salt water rinse (half a teaspoon in a glass). Ibuprofen for pain and inflammation. Avoid anything very hot, cold, or sweet on that side.
Knocked-out tooth: Hold it by the crown, not the root. If you can, gently push it back into the socket. If not, drop it in a glass of milk. Get to a dentist within 30 minutes for the best chance of saving it. Outcomes depend on how quickly you’re seen and the condition of the tooth.
Lost crown or filling: If you’ve still got the crown, denture adhesive can hold it temporarily. Don’t chew on that side.
Swelling: Cold compress on the outside of your cheek. Twenty minutes on, twenty off.
These buy you time. Not treatment.

Getting Here from Richmond

We’re at 150 Jolimont Rd, East Melbourne. A few minutes from Richmond by car, tram, or train. Jolimont Station is a short walk from our door. Tram routes 48 and 75 pass close by.
We also see patients from Cremorne, Abbotsford, Fitzroy, Clifton Hill, Carlton, and Brunswick.

Plot Twist: You Might Not Need the Weekend

If your situation isn’t actually urgent but you’ve been struggling to find time during the week, our regular hours start at 8am Monday to Friday. That’s early enough to get a check-up or consultation done before your workday starts.
For non-urgent care, a weekday appointment also means you get the full, unhurried experience in our calming, sanctuary-like clinic. We designed the space specifically for people who find dental visits stressful. It feels nothing like a traditional dental office.
For detailed pricing on any treatment, you can download the price guide from our website before you visit.
